Women should not have the option of being split up from men in the classroom because it will create a bad schooling environment for both sexes in the long run. Separating men and women in the classroom will have many bad repercussions that will come with it. For one, women will not get the experience of working with males in a business environment. Also, women will have a strong possibility of creating an inferiority complex when this separation occurs. This is not the best way to solve the problem of women's participation levels in class. .
Women do have a tough time in classes participating when they are seated with males. People all over the nation recognize this problem. Teachers notice it everyday in class discussion. Mrs. Julia Roberts, an eighth grade teacher at Presentation of Our Lady School in Denver, had this to say about the situation: "It's insane how much more the boys jump on each of the questions. They"re so competitive with each other the girls don't get a chance to say one word- This phenomenon in the classrooms of junior high school seems to persist throughout the college career also. Mr. Robert McCullough, a calculus professor here at OU, notices this lack of participation from women, too. "There may be one or two of [the women in his class] that like to compete with the men for talking space in the class, but for the most part the female part of the class does not say much," replied Mr. McCullough when asked about the participation levels of women in his classroom. this fact that women are having trouble competing with the aggressive nature of men in the classroom. To give the option to women to have a separate class without males present will not fully solve this problem. The segregation is only a quick fix that will eventually hurt the women's performance rather than support it. .
First, having little or no experience working with men will give the women of the business world a severe handicap when they enter the working environment.
