Imagine sitting down to eat in your favorite restaurant after a long day at work. You are ready to relax and enjoy your meal. Your food arrives, and just as you are about to take that first bite, a thick, choking cloud of filthy black smoke surrounds your head. As you turn your head to see who just ruined your appetite, your stomach seems to turn right along with it as yet another toxic cloud heads your way. How can someone be expected to eat when they are being bombarded with disgusting, not to mention dangerous fumes? A public place like a restaurant is no place for smoking, and it should be prohibited. .
By prohibiting smoking in a place like a restaurant, we may be saving the lives of hundreds of people, including your own as well as your family's. If a survey was taken asking people how often they deliberately put the lives of their friends and family at risk, it's a pretty safe bet that most people would say never. However, they may be forced to reconsider their answer if they go out to eat in restaurants that allow smoking. The secondhand smoke that they and their company are inhaling in those restaurants can be even more dangerous than what the actual smoker is inhaling into his or her lungs. Secondhand smoke is one of the worst health threats to everyone who comes in contact with it. Everyone can have a good time going out to eat with friends or family, but no can enjoy it if they are being put at risk. .
Besides the serious health risks involved with smoking in public places, there is an issue of cleanliness. When you go out, especially to a restaurant, you want to be sure that the place is clean and sterile. Smoking is a filthy habit, as is demonstrated on the bodies of those who choose to do it. Much as a smoker's teeth and fingernails turn yellow or brown, the walls, floors, and furniture of a building where smoking is allowed can also become discolored. The smell of smoke that has been absorbed into chairs, stools, or benches, is not a very fragrant perfume to dine under, and many smokers even complain about it.
