Estelle's work life bores her and by creating these rape fantasies, it makes her day go by faster and her life a little less lonely. This essay explains how woman are in need of people in their lives and how we do create stories in our minds that may be fairytale-like, but they do serve a purpose to us woman. They make us happy and give us hope that maybe someday a fantasy will actually happen for one of us woman.
In the essay "Looking at Woman", Sanders goes on to discuss woman and how they are seen by others. Sanders essay focuses on the way that woman see nudity in a different way then that of men. Each paragraph explains different episodes of his life, from his childhood to his college years. These episodes teach him more and more about sexuality and how woman and men see things differently when it comes down to sex. A sex object is referred to a lot throughout his essay and this is a key point, as you will see.
When Sanders was in college he sat in his room and watched his roommate hang nude pictures of woman, maybe from Play Girl, up on his walls and he says " For the instant of the photograph, they had become their bodies." This is saying that when that woman posed for that picture, they weren't focussed on anything else in their lives, but just being a nude model. When you are just a nude picture, in a sense, you are a sex object. Although men and woman have disagreed on this matter, Sanders believes that women are far more redundant towards this whole ordeal then men are. He says that woman see it as something being "wrong" rather than just their own opinion. I believe that if you do decide to engage in that type of business, where you are posing nude for pictures, stripping, or selling your body for sex, then yes, you are a sex object. People should not look at you as anything else, but a sex object because you are now degrading your own body and taking away from the pers!.
