In God We Trust (A Faith Worth Questioning)

Throughout the ages, humankind has been searching for an explanation as to its own existance. Part of what it means to be human is the constant need to find ones place within the universe. Human curiousity has given birth to many different ideas to why and how we are the way we are. Humanity has long found solace in arms of a higher power. The idea that there is some divine force driving our lives entertains the notion that we, too, are in some way divine. This, in turn, provides us with hope. This hope fosters a greater faith and eventually more hope. However, this is only an ideal; a belief that we can be divine.
In God we trust. We trust that there is purpose to our lives and that, although it cannot be achieved by earthly means, there is a utopia awaiting our arrival. The truth is that we beleive this because without it, there would lie a void of hopelesness in our lives. We need something, anything, to believe in. God is a belief like any other. We look to God to find ourselves because humanity is not quite what we think it should be. Humanity is flawed. We don't always know what is to come. Worry plagues the human mind with unanswerable questions and uncertainty. God, in a way, breaks the fever of existance. He sooths the ailments of man by wresting away the demons within. But what of those who don't need a savior? Are they any less heavenly than one that attends church twice a week? Does God frown upon us for security within ourselves? Or is that exactly what God is? Yes, in God we trust, but how is that trust defined?.
We attribute many things to God. It is our creation and salvation. It is our destruction and condemnation. Thousands have been save by the work of God. Thousands have been killed in the name of God. How can anything be more contradictory? The answer seems all too simple: if God is a belief, then It is only what we make It to be. Therfore, God is different for everyone.
