This makes them feel as though God is with him or her. One of these calls to prayer is:.
Allah is most great. Allah is most great Allah is most great. Allah is most great. I testify that there is no god except Allah. I testify that there is no god except Allah. I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Come to prayer! Come to prayer! Come to success (in this life and the Here after)! Come to success! Allah is most great. Allah is most great. There is no god except Allah. (Ibrahim 1).
These prayers are known to be a direct communication between the Muslims and Allah. Most of the people of different religions are astounded by the way the Muslim life is centered around prayer throughout the day.
The third pillar is giving zakat, which is giving support to the needy. The meaning of the word zakat means both purification and growth (Ibrahim 1). A person may give as much as he or she wants as a voluntary contribution or donation to charity. What zakat specifically means is "giving a specified percentage on certain properties to certain classes of needy people" (Ibrahim 1). One of the most important Islamic beliefs is that everything belongs to Allah and wealth is held by trusting human beings. The payment is done on an annual basis and it normally involves payment of two and a half percent of what one owns. This zakat is calculated individually. A person may donate as much as he or she pleases but this is all done in secrecy (Ibrahim 1). .
The fourth pillar of Islam is the observation of the holy month. This holy month is called Ramadan and is a period of fasting. The fast goes on from dawn until sundown (they cannot eat during the daylight hours). They are not only to abstain from eating but there is a very extensive list stating what they can and cannot do during these hours. This list includes smoking, sexual relations, food, drink, and bloodshed.
