Great Expectations

Or the opposite, he would have become a gentleman and stayed there if he didn't have any desire at all to be a common blacksmith.
             Climax:.
The climax of this novel is when Pip finds out who his benefactor is. He meets Able Magwitch and he just wants to give him back his two pound notes that he gave Pip long ago. Then he has him stay for a drink and that is when Magwitch tells him that he is his benefactor. In the story Magwitch states, "Yes, Pip dear boy, I've made a gentleman on you! It's me wot has done it! I swore that time, sure as ever I earned a guinea, spec'lated and got rich, you should got rich." (Chapter 39, Page 298).
This event plays an important role in this novel because during the whole story there is the mystery of who is Pip's benefactor. This changes the whole novel because Pip thinks that Ms. Havesham is the one who is giving him all the money so that he and Estella can be together, now he knows that is not true. Also Pip has the pressure of harboring a felon and also accepting money from this criminal. He now is faced with the problems of the law. .
             Resolution:.
The conflict of Pip and Estella is resolved at the end when Pip sees Estella and they go away as friends. The conflict of Pip and his desire to stay away from being a commoner is resolved at the end when he realizes that he has hurt the people that care about him the most. He reconciles with them and returns to his old unselfish self. .
I do not agree with the way the author resolves the conflict between Pip and Estella. I believe that them parting as friends could never quench Pip's love for Estella. However, the conflict of Pip being a gentleman or a commoner was ended well. It made it so that Pip turned back into a nice guy instead of a snob. Also it sufficiently reunited Joe and Biddy with Pip. A better way to end the conflict of Pip vs. Estella would be to have Pip meet a new girl that he falls in love with and have her love him too.
