Global Perspectives of Sept. 11


"And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists." (1).
             I believe that global unity is going to be essential in the fight against terrorism. Terrorism isn't an actual site we can drop a few bombs on and be done with. It is spread worldwide and I think global unity is necessary to put an end to it. .
             While some believe Paternalism is done for the good of only the "parent country" (13) I believe it also benefits the rest of the world. Terrorism is a worldwide problem that needs to stop. The United States needs to play the father role in order to gain support from other countries, and even if that means to play the part of a bully. .
             State Primacy has played a major role in the United States recovery of the actions on September 11. A renewed sense of patriotism has spread from both young and old in the states. American flags are waved in front of many homes; Wal-Mart has sold 15 times more flags the day of the tragedy than the same day last year (12). Hundreds of normal citizens flooded to the world trade center to try and assist the already battered New York City firefighters and police officers. Even people in states such as California were willing to take the time and wait hours in line to donate blood in hopes of saving the lives of fellow Americans. .

             However throughout the rest of the world, people living in Arab countries were found dancing in the street, celebrating the slaying of thousands of innocent American lives (5). Many Arabs believe America is just getting a taste of its own medicine. They are beginning to feel like America is helping Israeli's terrorism on the Palestinians and should maybe even practice more state primacy behaviors and mind their own business when it comes to there social matters. .

             State primacy and patriotism is strong in Afghanistan and the Taliban government also.
