Getzel The Monkey

I found this to be a very novel story although I am not sure that I am astute enough to comprehend most of what was offered in this reading.
I believe that the story was told from the view of a conservative yet wise experienced thoughtful thinker, a very analytical woman, perhaps a character in the story. I also believe that this is a person who has experienced much of life and has a great deal of knowledge to share with us in this reading. The community that the speaker lives in seems to me to be quite like the one in the story, it may be one in the same only years later. .
Todrus and Getzel, were alike in many area however they were subtly different.
Todrus was very funny and Getzel although he put a great deal of effort into trying to be humors could not seem to get it. Todrus was much taller in stature and Getzel was not only shorter but more "compact", Todrus was much more to look at than Getzel, I believe that he may have even been more handsome.
Todrus was also a much more likable businessman with more personality, I think that at one time Getzel was a more astute businessman. I believe that Todrus had more personality than business sense, I also believe that Getzel had more business sense than personality this I believe is the reason that at the end of the story the creditors were so insistent about taking over his assets so quickly.
Getzel imitates Todrus because his life looks so much more colorful, so much more exciting than his own. His friends and acquaintances his wife and his daughters all look so much better to Getzel than his own. .
The "folk wisdom" in the story not only holds a great deal of truth and wisdom but it also contributes to the story in that it gives us a feeling and where the story takes place. It gives us insight as to the time period, it gives you a bit of history of the people, their beliefs and their philosophies. .
With regard to the way that Todus responds to Getzel's efforts to mimic him, I think that at first it amuses him, it fact almost all of the way through the whole reading it does not seem to have mush of an impact on Todus at all.
