Gun control has long been a topic of great controversy. It is a heated debate over constitutional right and safety of the public. With all this political debate, legislature and new laws, why does this interest me? Well I believe in order to right a paper 10 pages long and it not be boring, you must right about something that interest you or effects you. Something you won't babble on about, throwing out facts. So why gun control? As a young boy in middle school, I was thrust into thinking about guns and their effects. On the last day of school in seventh grade, I had to think about things a 12 shouldn't have to deal with. A friend of mine had been shot in the head and killed by another friend of mine. People die everyday, but it shouldn't be like this. Two friends messing around with one of the boys fathers gun, ending in early and abrupt death for one, and a long life of regret and horror for the other. Should we sacrifice safety for rights?.

Gun control efforts generally focus on passing legislation by local, state, or national government, to restrict legal ownership of certain firearms. Most countries now have some restrictions on firearms. Not everyone agrees about gun control laws and restrictions. .
Some people think our laws are too lenient. Advocates of strict gun control laws argue that reducing the number of crimes committed with guns would save lives. Each year in the United States, more than 35,000 people are killed by guns.(Vizzard) This death rate is much higher than any other industrial nation. Attacks involving a gun are five times more likely to result in a death than are similar attacks made with a knife. In 1997 approximately 70 percent of the murders in the United States were committed with a gun.(Vizzard) .
However, gun control laws are controversial. While gun control laws may decrease criminals access to guns, the same laws restrict law-abiding citizens.
