Francis Bacon

             Bacon's writings fall into three categories; philosophical, purely literary, and professional. He wrote and researched topics such as England's politics to scientific theory. The most well known works of Sir Francis Bacon are; The Essays (1601), The Proficience and Advancement of learning (1605), Novoum Organum(1620), Instaurio and the Idols of the Tribe. There are many more but these works are the most well known.
             The Advancement of Learning, which was a review in English of the state of knowledge in his own time. The Advancement of Learning, was written while Bacon served on the English Parliament. .
             The title, Novum Organum was taken from Aristotle's Organum, meaning "logical works." (www.utm.edu/research/iep/b/bacon.htm) Novum Organum, successfully influenced the accepatance of accurate observation and experimentation in science. In it he maintained, "All prejudices and preconceived attitudes, which he called idols, must be abandoned, whether they be the common property of the race due to common modes of thought.".
             Instauatio, was Bacon's attempt and plan to reorganize science. It contained six unfinished parts. The plan involved:.
             1. A new division of the sciences.
             2. A new method of scientific inquiry.
             3. A collection of scientific observations and facts.
             4. Examples of the new method.
             5. Philosophical precursor to the new philosophy.
             6. The new philosophy itself resulting from the application of the new method.
             Another significant work of Francis Bacon was the Idols of the tribe. A series of writing on idols shortly followed after. Bacon felt that these writings were the foundation in human nature. He believed" human falsely assume their perceptions are based on universal when in fact their perceptions are purely individuals views." .
             According to Lelsie, Bacon himself believed that the study of ethics involved not only the general study of ethical principle but also the detailed study of human nature, which equips one to influence others.
