Fireweed

The book that I read for my quarter project was Fireweed by Jill Paton Walsh.
Story took place in the 1940's during World War II in London. The author discuses the life of a young man named Bill and a young women name Julie who lived on the streets and managed to make it on their own.
The book opens up with a young man reminiscing about the past where he met his best friend who also became his partner. He was fifteen that year, the year he met Julie. He was in the underground station living as he usually did and he saw her wandering around. HE went to introduce himself when she was startled and ran away. He managed to stick with her until she got tired of running. He asked her what her name was and she replied Julie, and he told her his name was Bill. They got to know each other and decided to get some breakfast together at Marco's, since Julie didn't no the streets too well. Bill was very happy that he had met someone, because ever since the war had started he had felt very lonely. Julie was just as happy because she didn't want to be wandering the streets all alone and no one to talk to.Julie was curious how Bill had gotten to be on the streets, so he told her over breakfast. .
When the was started to get really bad in London Bill's Aunt decided to send him away to a safer place. They sent him to Wales where he was put into a Welsh family by the name of Mr. and Mrs. Williams. They lived on the farm in the middle of Know where. Bill was very upset that his aunt had gone against his father's wishes. Since Bill's father was into war he wouldn't tell him what his aunt had done but soon enough he would take to him. After three weeks of being away from home he decided to go back. His father had sent him a letter and some money to get him along until he came back. Bill took this opportunity to get out of there. He took the train right back to London where he belonged. He went to his aunts house but he soon realized that no one had lived on these streets for quite some time.
