Exegesis on the Garden of Eden

Still unsatisfied, God puts the man into a deep sleep so he can take a rib from his chest. Out of the rib the Lord God made a woman and presents her to him. God lets him name her too; ""This one shall be called Woman"". God and the Lord are both satisfied with the Woman and the two live together naked and unashamed. .
This story, unlike the first creation story written in list form, could be considered either a myth or a legend. A myth because it is a traditional story that's explains the phenomenon of the creation of the earth and a legend because it is an unauthenticated story, sometimes thought to be historical, that has been preserved by oral tradition. The author uses narration as a simple, yet effective, approach to describing the Garden of Eden, the land around it and God's creation of people, plants, and animals. .
First and foremost, of course, the reason for this story was to explain the origins of life and also to explain God's power. Like the first story, it was used to show God's all-powerfulness. Whatever God said was done and God never stopped creating until He was completely satisfied with His work. No one could possibly know when this story was first told because it could have been told at any period of time. .
The author was clearly a skilled storyteller. He used many descriptive words and phrases that enabled the listener to comprehend the tale he was telling. "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life."(Genesis 2:7) From just this passage we get many messages about the power of God. First, the word "formed" is translated from the word "yasar". "The word "yasar" was used to give the figure of a potter at work, molding with his hands" (page 5). That and the depiction of God breathing into Adam's nostrils to give him life (Genesis 2:7) shows that God gave extra attention in making man special, different from animals.
