Module 1: Education, Personal, and Professional Goals.
My short-term educational goal is to achieve 30 credits successfully in criminal justice and business, and soon graduate from the University of Maryland, University College by May of 2002, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. My college education began in September of 1991 at Montgomery College, in Rockville, MD. My major at that time was in French Literature, but quickly changed to Criminal Justice, based on my fascination with the law, and my desire to see all criminals arrested. During the academic periods of Fall 1991-Summer 1997, I attended Montgomery College, in Rockville, MD, part-time. During this time, I worked various jobs in retail, loss prevention, fugitive recovery, and computer security. In order to prepare for these jobs, I underwent months of on-the-job training, attended educational seminars, as well as additional classes, in order to make me a well-rounded individual. As time progressed, my interest in entrepreneurship grew, especially in the security equipment and services field. After getting weeks of advice from my father, who owns his own business, I started doing research. This eventually led to signing up for classes, seminars, and lectures on what it takes to start, maintain and run a business. The Small Business Administration, and the Washington,DC Chambers of Commerce was quite helpful in this regard. By the the end of 1999, I had enough knowledge of the security industry and entrepreneurship, that I started my own corporation. My main reason for signing up for EXCEL, is to save money, and time, so that I can graduate in May of 2002, with honors. This motivating factor is pushing me harder and harder to that goal. My current major is Criminal Justice, but I might add International Business as a minor, to boost my knowledge and credibility. This is why school and any other form of education is absolutely vital to my survival, both personal and business.
