             With our fast cars and our party hardy attitudes, drunk driving has been in the mainstream media for a long time. Ever since man has invented both alcohol and then the automobile this has been an issue to be solved. Drinking and driving takes old, young and middle aged people everyday. This also is one of the dangers that can be easily prevented with some commonsense. This is one of the primary reasons for automobiles accidents in the United States. It's seems it would be easy to say to someone not to drink and then get into an vehicle but this is not the case at all.
             In the United States it is not illegal to drink and drive. It is illegal to be drunk and drive in an automobile. Also, in the United States every state has different rules about what the legal limit of alcohol is to drive a vehicle. The states can very from six percent blood alcohol concentration up to ten percent blood alcohol concentration. In the state of Michigan the legal limit of alcohol is ten percent (10%) blood alcohol concentration (Johnson). If you exceed 10% of the legal limit then you are driving drunk. Many people exceed this limit without even knowing they did so.
             There are basically four violations that may occur if you are stopped while you are under the influence of alcohol. The first offence is operating under the influence of alcohol (Harter). The second is operating with an unlawful blood alcohol level (Harter). The third offense is operating with impaired (Harter). The last one is only for someone who is under the legal age of drinking, which is twenty-one years of age. This person will receive a minor in perception of Alcohol. If convicted of any of these fines you may have your driver's license automatically removed. The driver may also go to jail, pay fines and pay court costs for there case. To see what your alcohol level is when you are driving you might be asked to take a breath test by an officer to see if you have the legal amount on your system.
