             Domestic violence is a very serious problem that we are all facing in the United States today. Many people think of domestic violence as men beating women but domestic violence can occur to anyone of any culture, race, occupation, or income level. The abusers can be husbands, boyfriends, lovers or partners. No one group is targeted towards violence but do not get tricked into thinking, "It would never happen to me or someone I know." Often abusers pick a victim who is a hard worker, responsible, and forgiving. The type of person in which an abuser can use their power and control over.              Statistics about abuse in the United States are outstanding. This year alone one out of three teenage girls experienced dating violence before they reached the age of nineteen ("Domestic".) Another recent statistic showed that sixty percent of men who abused their wives abused their children as well. Eighty one percent of all males who have batter had fathers who abused them as well. Surprising to many people violence is escalating among the middle and upper class. It is important for all of us to be aware of domestic violence so .
             people can receive help. Many parents are unaware of what is happening and by the time they find out it is often too late. In some cases the parents are the last to know about the abuse. .
             A victim of abuse needs someone to keep building up his or her self -esteem. Encouragement is the best form of support. The most common trait of an abuser is to isolate the victim from their social circle ("Domestic.") His or her eyes become dull with no sparkle or life. Too often the mental abuse they suffered is worse than the physical abuse. The physical scars heal but the victim will have mental scars forever. People think that battered women have black eyes and broken bones, however domestic abuse can also be emotional and sexual.
