Bag Lady

The visual imagery of the song addresses bags, not per say, but human baggage or the emotional weight that one carries every day. The song, "Bag Lady", is about how we perceive things and the effect is that it ultimately has a good message because it provides positive spiritual uplifting. The song deals with emotions that almost everyone can relate to. The ultimate message is that the most important factor is we are responsible for our destinies. It is our choice and we are accountable. .
The first verse of the song says "Bag Lady, you gon hurt your back, dragin all them bags like that, I guess nobody told you how you must hold on to is you, is you." This verse illustrates, as other verses throughout the song, that holding onto old feelings, thought patterns, pain, hurt, anger, and disappointment (all baggage) can traumatize a person every time they are triggered or recalled. The baggage can also manifest itself in our bodies and hinder our progress in every day life. These things run the gamut of causing chronic illnesses and diseases in our bodies, sometimes even becoming life threatening. Eventually, these heavy bags cause our bodies to deteriorate.
"Bag Lady you gon miss your bus. You can't hurry up cause you got too much stuff. When they see you coming they gon take off runnin from you, its true oh yes they dooo. When we spend time focusing on the past (the heavy stuff), we are unable to see the future. We focus our energies on negative people and negative experiences and wind up missing great opportunities that were intended for us. In the mean time, our perpetrators, those who have hurt us continue living their usual lives neglectful of the hurt they've caused. The artist says that when they see you coming, they take off in their own direction. As time passes, the wounds become harder and harder to conceal. When the wounds are finally exposed, the perpetrator is gone.
