The Bluest Eye - Pecolas spiral into madness

"The horror at the heart of her yearning was exceeded only by the evil of fulfilment" .
The text The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison is a text based upon the fate of a little girl, Pecola. Pecola acts as a scapegoat for the black society of America, as their void in the place of culture explodes into a rank distaste for themselves. Pecola suffers this twisted perspective of beauty, and in doing so absorbs the anger of the disorientated black community. Amongst this accumulation of anger Pecola finds a way out of "ugliness", and that is in "Blue eyes". These "blue eyes" them become Pecolas goal, and when she eventually her goal, she becomes a victim of her own society, "stepping over into madness".
The inwardly directed hatred of the black community comes from beauty, "Probably [one of] the most destructive ideas in the history of human thought.". This black society with no culture, and thus no ideal of beauty, a by-product of culture, indulges in servility by adopting ideals of the ever present oppressive hand of white America. This overbearing culture of capitalism and values, ground down after years of being the oppressors, educates this adrift black society in their own seemingly wise judgement of beauty. This learned culture does not include black beauty in its ideals, so an internal hatred broods amongst the black community. This internal anger over the "ugliness" of themselves, and the continual distaste they feel when seeing their own ugly kin, must bubble over. When this point is reached, victims arise. Pecola serves as one of these victims. Local black boys call her "black e mo", for what they know is that to be black is to be ugly.
Pecola as a young girl, knows of her "ugliness", her whole family do "they believed they were ugly". She knows of her ugliness purely because she knows she is black. Pecola in her inchoate state discovers a way to escape this "blackness". Pecolas logic tells her that she needs to get "blue eyes".
