Ideas come from the heart and mind of the individual artist, putting everything they have into the artwork. People who view and interpret art are also directly involved in the phrase that "Art is about ideas." It is up to the individual to interpret art for themselves based on ideas they have constructed in their heads about what art really is. For example, a photo of carefully placed objects could be art to someone because it is based on their ideas about art. Ideas are the building blocks for constructing an artwork. They give an artist a reason to create a piece of art and a way in which they are to complete it. The artworks chosen for this analysis are 'Beside the Garden' by Brian Robertson and 'Do Not Hesitate' by Claudine Hellmuth. .
Beside The Garden - Brian Robertson.
Description.
'Beside the Garden' is a collage which includes a picture of a little Asian girl in a pink dress beside a large pink and red hibiscus. The background is light green, palm pattern with Chinese writing and other faded flowers worked into the picture. In the top left hand corner there is a brown circle in which an Asian bride is pictured. The bride is the exact image of what the little girl would look like if she were grown up. The colours focused on are pinks, reds, murky greens and browns. The overall composition of the collage is very effective because the viewers eyes is instantly drawn to the bride in the corner. She is surrounded by dark browns and seems almost out of place with all the softer colours. A variety of texture and line have been used on the main subjects, effectively contrasting them with the background which is softer and more pleasant. Tone is used on the girl and the bride. The dark shading and shadows put emphasis on them both. This picture focuses mainly on composition, colour and texture and tone. .
Interpretation.
' Beside the Garden' seems to be all about change and growth throughout life.
