'N Sync


Their first big hit was in Germany with the song, "I Want You Back." By February of 1998, this song was all over the top 40 charts. In March of "98 their first album, "N Sync, was released. With help from a concert video shown on the Disney Channel and the emerging popularity of clean-cut, same sex pop/dance bands, 'N Sync's debut LP, "N Sync, hit the Top 10 on the LP charts and the group hit the Top 10 for the first time with "I Want You Back." By July, their album was certified "Gold." In November the group was appearing as an opening act for the talented Janet Jackson, for her "Velvet Rope" tour. Then they decided that it was time for a tour of their own, their album had been certified 3x platinum by now. "N Sync's debut LP was the 5th biggest-selling LP of 1998 according to "SoundScan" with 4.4 million copies sold during the year in the U.S.
             By this time there was no stopping "N Sync. The won an American Music Award for Best Pop New Artist, and their album was certified 5x platinum. 'N Sync also took home a Blockbuster Award for Favorite New Artist/Group. In September they were nominated for 4 MTV Video Music Awards including: Best Group Video, Best New Artist Video, Best Pop Video, and The Viewer's Choice Award all for "Tearin" Up My Heart." Unfortunately they didn't get to put any of those on their trophy selves at home. But by January of 2000, their album was certified 10x platinum, and their new single "Bye Bye Bye" hit the top 40 charts. .
             At the end of March of 2000, "N Sync's nest LP, No Strings attached was released. An unprecedented 4 million copies were shipped into stored. This number turned out to be needed, first day sales of the record were 1.1 million copies. By the end of the week the album had sold 2.4 million copies. This broke all sorts of records, but that wasn't the only area they were breaking records in. The group also broke Ticketmaster's single-day sales records for their upcoming tour.
