Proposal for Grandma

It would further be difficult to calculate the cost of this option. Given that each family should be held equally responsible financially, this could be one of the largest issues. .
Having thus disposed of in-home solutions, we looked at placing Grandma with a professionally run organization. We considered a local nursing home first. We found many potential benefits, including round-the-clock medical attention, prepared meals and good security. On the other hand, we felt that Grandma would find it difficult to live with so many others, after spending the latter part of her life alone. Having her peers around her would also work against us in this case, as the majority of nursing home occupants have difficulties with their faculties. Grandma would lose much of her self-esteem on placement, imagining that she is now so old that she needs to be looked after in such a fashion. As many others have done, she may literally lose the will to live. .
Thus we settled firmly upon placing Grandma in a nearby senior housing community. The advantages to this solution far outweigh any disadvantages. It is true that senior apartments can be expensive. We were told by Ms. Jennifer Moffett, Marketing Director of Markhill Village in Sevierville, Tennessee, that the current cost for a one bedroom apartment is $1,123 per month and that there is a $7,000 entry fee (Ms Moffett, email to author). However, we believe that we can easily justify the costs involved. .
For example, according to Ms. Moffett, the entry fee does include a number of excellent benefits, including ongoing, lifetime maintenance of the apartment; waiving of any credit check; one month free, per year, of assisted living should this become necessary. The monthly rent includes housekeeping; linen service and bed changes; one meal per day; utilities; transportation; activities; security; yard service. In addition, the management of the community does an 'up and about check' twice daily to ensure the health and safety of the occupants.
