Nearly 200 years ago our founding forefathers came together in the summer of 1787 in Philadelphia to draw up the Constitution of the United States of America. The document was to be a symbol of freedom, which would give the people a sound voice in the government and fair, equal opportunities for all. There was a difference in class distinctions, since most of the writers were aristocrats, which created a dilemma for the founding fathers and affected the way that they would draw up the constitution.
Since many of the writers of the Constitution were rich, aristocrats, they had a fear in giving the common people full power of the government. They saw man as a selfish, evil creature that needed to be controlled. Changing the nature of man was not an option for the fathers because it was practically impossible. Giving everyone power in government would be a dangerous risk that would probably lead down to the downfall of the aristocracy. However by not giving the people any power in government, they would only be creating another tyranny identical to that of the British. They needed to create a balanced government that would keep itself in check. .
The forefathers achieved what the set out to create, a balanced government, by making a field in which representation was equal in both parties. The two separate houses, one for the aristocrats, and one for the common people keep both in check. The Constitution created a strong federal government, which provided a stable state in which uprisings could be upheld and prevented. To this day the Constitution is the greatest document created by the human mind.
