Why Did Stalin Win The Struggle For Power?.
In this essay, I will explain the many reasons why Stalin won the struggle for power. Let us not forget that when Lenin wanted Stalin to be fired Zinoviev saved Stalin from getting the sack, meaning Stalin was in debt to Zinoviev. This savior of Stalin convinced Zinoviev he had won the battle to succeed Lenin. But By 1929 Joseph Stalin was in complete control of Russia. Here are the reasons why.
Firstly, Stalin's leading rival Leon Trotsky was very arrogant. This made members of the Bolshevist Party and the public dislike him because of his self-importance. Trotsky underestimated Stalin, which led to Stalin winning the leadership of the Bolshevist Party.
Secondly, Stalin believed in Socialism in Russia, which was a very popular idea with the people. Trotsky believed in a Bolshevist World Revolution, which would make the Soviet people very unhappy because it would cause war all over the world.
Thirdly, when Stalin was campaigning for leadership, his main rival Leon Trotsky got Malaria. This stopped Trotsky from campaigning against Stalin. This prevented Trotsky gaining votes at a critical time. This gave Stalin the advantage over Trotsky.
Fourthly, Trotsky failed to appear at Lenin's funeral because supposedly, Stalin told Trotsky the funeral was a day earlier than it actually was. This made Trotsky look bad because he did not show up at his leader's funeral. It also gave Stalin the chance to appear on the front of every newspaper. This made out that Stalin was a man of the people and lived up to his beliefs.
Fifthly, Stalin wanted to be the successor of Lenin. This convinced the people that Lenin wanted Stalin to succeed him. This couldn't be further from the truth. Lenin knew when he was dying, that Stalin was only using his power. Stalin also wanted to be seen as Lenin's best friend. .
The sixth reason was that Stalin controlled people's jobs and future careers.
