I must affirm the resolution, resolved: When in conflict globalization ought to be valued above national sovereignty.
The value that I will uphold in today's round is quality of life. Seeing that this resolution talks about global status, then we must look at how it affects the people of the world. The criterion, which best upholds my value is prosperity.
The affirmative presents the following definitions from the American Heritage Dictionary for the clarification of today's debate: .
Conflict- a state of disharmony between incompatible or antithetical persons, ideas of interests, a clash.
Globalization- To make global or worldwide in scope or application.
Sovereignty- complete independence.
Contention 1: Globalization helps alleviate poverty world-wide.
Sub A: economic globalization lessens the gap between rich and poor countries.
Globilizatiopn helps developing countries gain economically and socially. "The WTO recently buttressed the case for globalization with a study showing that those developing countries that are themost open to trade - that is, most ready to take part in the global economy - are the most successful in catching up with rich countries. Countries that stay on the sidelines tend to fail socially and economically." The impact of this is proof that countries open to trade are more likely the grow and in turn prosper. From this prosperity many problems of countries across the globe can be solved, for example, as people in third world nations begin to prosper economically they can put funds toward solving diseases like rampant aids in Africa and toward helping the environment. Inumerable benefits begin from this simple globalization.
Sub B: Globalization's methods are universal in working to alleviate poverty.
Globalization is not a unique way to better only certain economies, its methods work in any system. With free trade even the worst economy can begin to help its people with the most basic of problems, like food.
