The second Great War was a war of constant change. The tactics and strategy, not to mention the equipment, from the previous era would just not stand up to the technology of that day. Aircraft, amphibious assaults, guided missiles, and automatic weapons changed the tactics of this war drastically.
One of the primary new strategies employed by all warring countries was the regular bombing of military and civilian targets. Long range bombers such as the Lancaster and Flying Fortress were able to destroy targets from Britain to the centre of Germany. The bombers used high explosives to flatten factories, and incendiary bombs to burn swathes through Germany's cities and countryside. These raids had a two pronged effect, they were able to damage military targets, and greatly demoralize the populace of Germany. Military planners had to account for this coming from the other direction, and anti aircraft batteries were set up across Britain's coast. The battle of Britain was this full effect in motion, the defense of the only allied stronghold in Europe against the Nazi powers. Defenses were set up against these attacks to stop the raids, which had the same purpose as the allied raids.
The main feature of the first Great War was the stagnant, war-of-attrition trench combat. By the end of WWI, rapid-firing machine guns and mobile tanks were able to mow down any hope of raid on defending trenches. This created a new, much more mobile style of warfare, characterized by the Nazi blitzkrieg tactics. This lightning war involved highly mobile mechanized infantry to rush towards enemy centers with the help of massive air support and advanced radio communications. Using these methods the Germans were able to swiftly conquer most of Europe. The line of fortresses in France facing Germany was simply ran around by the German forces and attacked from behind. The allied forces employed a similar method when retaking Europe, using fast strikes supported by air and sometimes paratrooper cores.
