Life

The education system was set in place so individuals could have an organization in which they could go to, to learn. These organizations are known as schools. There are many different types of schools, as there are learning methods, but one thing stays the same, and that is the way one evaluates the amount learned. Quizzes, tests, midterms and finals are set in place to evaluate what a student has learned in a course. A grading system such as "A, B, C, D, and F" is often used to show a student where they academically are in the class. This letter grading system only tells a student that they have lets say learned seventy percent of the material, which would be a "C". So if one is largely being graded on their academic performance and is a bad test taker, or just freezes up and blanks out. Does that mean because the individual failed the test that he or she did not learn? One could say that a student who received an "A" in a class learned much more than and individual who received an "F". On the contrary the person who received the failing graded could have gone for extra help, worked very diligently, and still struggled with the material. This person may have failed the class but, ultimately he or she leaves the situation knowing that they tried there hardest, they did everything possible, and even though he or she failed the class, they can walk away and know that they did the best they could. Therefore, this person learned a valuable lesson, that they could be defeated, but not because they didn't try. Thus, grades are not always a good indication of what has been learned, because who is to say what one has truly learned and taken away with them. .
Grades are not always a good indication of what has been learned. In many ways a letter grading system is a poor way to evaluate ones performance simply because a person who received an "A" may not know any more than a person who received an "F".
