Wanting to protect the league and players is a good thing to do. How far should we go to protecting them? Being they are living their own lives, they should and can support themselves. If it's by playing basketball, then why not? Enforcing an age requirement will not help in protecting the league or the players. Enforcing an age requirement will only take away from the talent and excitement from the game. Most the NBA's best players are young players. So far, the young players who are in the NBA have not failed, but lived up to expectations. Take Tracey McGrady, Kobe Bryant, and Tim Duncan for example. Between them they have five championships, two scoring titles, and thirteen all-star appearances. They are more talented and athletic than most other players. The NBA should not bring in an age requirement for the draft mainly because the draft pool will not be near as great as previous years. Most of the best players that we do have in the NBA now came through the draft at young ages and have made a great impact on the game of basketball. Labron James is talked about to be the best high school player to ever come out of high school. "Danny Manning who left the college ranks after four years stated "Who is to say he can't play with the best if he is that good." He is the most athletic, fastest and strong as any other player in the NBA at age eighteen. If he can make a name for himself doing something he loves then he should do it and no one should be able to take it from him or any other person who choose to take it to the next level. Instead of placing an age requirement, the NBA should look into providing young players with guidance and mentors who will look out for the players and help them through the rough spots. .
