Global Warming

(Smith 5) One scientist even mentioned that the temperature increase might be a rebound from a slight Ice Age in 1950- 1980. (Parsons 5).
There are many causes behind global warming. Countless years of research have been devoted to pinpointing the specific reasons that global warming has become an issue. Some of the causes are natural and cannot be prevented. Among these is radiation from the sun, El Nino/La Nina, Earth's orbit, the moon gravitational pull, ocean currents, and a Little Age. Global warming is also in part caused by human activity. By using aerosol sprays and fossil fuels we are depleting the ozone layer. .
The results from human activity have increased the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect is a natural phenomenon that comes from water vapor, which in turn, warms the earth. (Watson 25) The gases consist of carbon dioxide, methane, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and ozone. Carbon dioxide, as scientists claim, is the greenhouse gas that is the main factor causing global warming. It is mainly derived from human caused activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. (Parsons 145) Natural sources like volcanic eruption also emits CO2 into the atmosphere but the amount of the emissions aren't as great. Without the greenhouse effect, the average temperature is said to be -10 degrees Fahrenheit, like on Mars. (Salmon 25) Below is an illustration of how the greenhouse effect works. (Refer to figure 2 on the last page for an illustration of the green house effect.).
From the 1400s to 1850, a Little Ice Age was said to have occurred. So the warming trend is said to be according to nature's plans. (Jeffreys 83) This followed with a period of warmth until 1950. Starting in 1950 and ending in 1980 global temperature models showed a decrease in the average temperature suggesting another Little Ice Age. Carbon dioxide levels have also decreased having people think that maybe the temperature and CO2 levels have something in common.
