I identify with Anna Akhmatova's poem "I am not one of those who left the land" because I agree with the poem's theme, "you should never give-up on what you believe in". After September the eleventh, I can appreciate this poem on a higher level. .
You see, I appreciate this poem because it creates an emotional tone similar to September the eleventh. For instance, this quote, "I am not one of those who left the land to the mercy of its enemies" relates to me because even though I was not present, I saw many people who were and they did not abandon their homes even in the shadow of terrorism.
I like this poem because for me it is a poem of hope. It tells you that even under the most outrageous acts of cruelty, even under the most desolate of circumstances you have to stay positive. Because like the poem states, "Surely the reckoning will be made after the passing of this cloud" .
One of the excerpts that moved me the most is "But I am here, in the murk of conflagration, where scarcely a friend is left to know, we, the survivors, do not flinch from anything, not from a single blow." It is a meaningful piece because it resembles the courage of our great nation. It just makes me proud to be an American. .
When the country was attacked, the terrorists" plan backfired. In stead of tearing our nation apart, they tied us together with a mighty force. We have constructed a powerful patriotic union by raising more flags, joining the armed forces, holding ceremonies and most importantly, being true Americans. .
Sometimes I think about the terrorists and the crimes that they committed. When I do, I am filled with combination of hatred and sorrow towards them. They had no just cause for attacking us. I also feel sorry for the numerous people that were directly affected in so many areas. Even more sympathy for the crowd that had friends and family pass away.
A lot of people feared for their lives on that day.
