The word "Family" is too vague to have a specific definition because its meaning differs between individuals according to their background, race, gender, or religion. My beliefs complies with how I was brought up that the term family is a sacred relationship between a man and a woman raising up their children under a shield of love and happiness. Therefore, marriage is a privilege which shall not be given to gay people. On the other hand, Anna Quindlen is asking in her essay "Evan's Two Moms" to legalize gay marriages. Gay marriages will have a drastic effect on family morals, psychology, and health.
From a religious perspective, gay marriage is an immoral act, and it should be illegal in the United States. God created men and women in the first place to reproduce and to create a family based on care and happiness, not pleasure. God forbids homosexuality, as referring to the story of Lot and his village. People who lived in his village committed too many sins that God had to burn them except Lot and his family. One of those sins was homosexuality. This story should teach us, even if we don't believe in God, that gay marriage is already forbidden thousands years ago, and gay people are committing one of the greatest sins in life. If gay marriage was okay to do, why did God burn Lot's village? Lot's village forgot about God because of the extreme freedom that they had at that time; I hope we are not next.
Gay marriage or homosexuality has developed deadly diseases throughout the years. Those diseases, such as HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), killed thousands of people as they are passing their diseases to others. For instance, I use to have a close friend who was homosexual. I've tried so many times to warn him about the consequences of being gay. However, he was a very persistent person, and he doesn't like to take advice from anyone. After few years, he began to get sick very easily.
