They have to make that decision for themselves; do they want to spend their time playing a sport for fun or do they want to have spare time after classes and use that time to get a job? Many people think with the amount of money "donated" or given to the school by sponsors should also go to the athletes. Why should the money go to the athletes? Yea, the athletes are playing for the school and sponsors are representing the team, but not any specific player. The money should go to the school itself so the school can use the money to benefit all the students, not just the athletes. Sylvan, along with many others, feel that several college teams bring in equal amounts of revenue as some professional teams, but the college athletes do not get a dime. What they have to realize is that is what you get for playing a college sport. You are not supposed to be paid that money to play for the school; you should play because you like the game and its something to keep you busy when you are not at classes. .
While some have the same thoughts as Sylvan, a large number of people disagree with what he believes. I, along with many others, feel that they are already being fairly compensated. The athletes complain about not getting enough money for sports, but what they do not realize is that they are getting so much more out of the sport than just the money. The NCAA establishes rules and regulations for universities and students to follow, and one of the most important rules is that student athletes should not receive any money to play sports. Another rule, or guideline, is that universities and students are allowed only scholarships towards housing. Spending money or any other type of cash would result in the corruption of college sports. Sylvan argued the point that getting a scholarship is the same as getting money to play for a sport, but no one finds anything wrong with that. I disagree with Sylvan.
