Marie Antoinette


More than anything else Marie wanted to have a child, but she and her husband did not conceive. Marie devoted most of her waking moments to being social, going to theater and parties. The book portrayed Marie as a young woman who loved being called the prettiest woman in the kingdom. Her outgoing ways and need for attention created a lot of rumors that she was having secret relationships with other wealthy lords and leaders of other countries. Her social ways embarresed the king, and Marie's mother sent her brother to visit Marie and make her act more responsibly. After her brother left she started to act more like the Queen, which gained her more respect with the King. .
             When Marie finally got pregnant there were a lot of rumors about the legitimacy about her babies father. The birth was very difficult, she almost bled to death and she told her husband she didn't want to have any more kids. While the relationship between her and her husband continued to be stressful, the book devoted many chapters to document Marie's many affairs. Her second child was proven not to be her husbands. This child was one of many that Marie had. The book covered the ups and downs of Maries marriage where they had good and bad times. At times Marie's actions brought them closer, other times it put the m further apart. In addition to the tragic death of some of her children Marie also was involved in several scandles as men took advantage of her. .
             The book concluded with several chapters detailing a fall of the monarchy. Marie never had a lust for power, and in reality she had almost no impact on the governent. Her actions and scandles and rumors finally brought her downfall. The people were convinced that the Queen imposed her will on the King and that she had secret dealings with her lovers and favorite rulers to bring about France's ruin. As the people got more suspicious the king and Queen saw they"re power beginning to fall.
