The Princess Bride


            
            
             Buttercup falls in love with her servant boy Westley, and after he sets off to sea to find fortunes, she is told the dread pirate Robinson killed him. She immediately becomes a recluse, and mutters the words, `I will never love again ' Some years later, she is engaged to Prince Humperdink, and after many quests and battles is eventually saved by her one true love, Westley. There are many quests, as well as other traditional fairy tale and folk tale elements displayed in this film.
             There are numerous fairy tale elements in "The Princess Bride."" It features a good-hearted common person, Westley, who succeeds in winning the heart of Buttercup, later on known as Princess Buttercup. There a multiple events where things occur in three's, such as: a trio comprised of a short man, a revenge sought swordsman, and an 8-foot giant; 3 battles Westley has to endure, on his quest to rescue Princess Buttercup. There are repeated lines in the film too. Vizzini repeatedly says, "Inconceivable,"" and Westley often says, "As you Wish,"" almost as though it were his trademark line. The story has a moral, which is that simple cliché, "True love never fails."" And of course, it has a happy ending and the two are reunited to spend their lives together.
             There are also many Folktale elements presented in the story. It is traditional and passed down from an older generation to a new one. There is a hero. He is an ordinary person, with no remarkable powers. He is but a mere servant with a crush on a girl. However, he is out of the ordinary in which he is exceptionally charming and witty. Westley also has to triumph over obstacles like, climbing up the side of the cliff, making his way through the fire swamp, and fighting off the trio. At the end he finally wins his personal happiness when he gets his prize, Buttercup.
             Last, there are several traditional quest elements in this film. Westley sets off to sea on a quest to find fortunes, and his ship is attacked by pirates.
