ver my sixteen years of living I have had to deal with many different challenges. However, one sticks out in my mind has the greatest one. About five years ago my father got remarried to a Bosnian lady. It was hard for me to deal with having another mother and having to share my dad. My step mother also had a daughter that was one year older than me. I was happy because I knew that my dad found someone that he really cared about him and that he really cared about. But I was sad because it was going to be a really big change in my life. I guess that I always had a thought in the back of my head that my dad and my mom were going to get back together, but when my dad told me the news I knew it was all a dream. .
My parents got divorced when I was three years old, and my mom moved into a nearby town. I switched houses week by week. So I was use to it being just a two person house where ever I was. But then when my dad got remarried to my step mom I had to get use to it being a four person house. My dad switched jobs so he could get more money because she didn't work. He started to work in San Francisco a good 45 to 55 min drive away from our house. He started to leave for work at 7 and he got home at 7. I almost never saw my dad. And I resented my step mom for making him have to work so much. Having to share a room was something that never popped into my mind. But then I had to share a room with a girl I didn't even really know. .
Even now 5 years later I have major communication problems with my step mom. Sometimes I think it is because she is not from America and sometimes I think that it is because I don't like having to tell three different parents everything about my life. It's a really hard adjustment but one that I am going to have to get use to sooner or later. Sometimes our arguments are because of the customs in Bosnia are so different than the ones in America, for instance I think that it is fine for a girl to spit.
