Today in my psychology class, I had to read a section about relationships and come up with three common questions that had to do with the section. Then we discussed the questions in a group to get their opinions on the questions. Now, I am going to discuss the three questions and provide you with some of my answers, and some of the answers that our group came up with.
The first common question we came up with was: What topic do parents and teens mostly disagree on? And there are many possible answers to this particular question. There are many things in a persons? life that they will disagree with their parents on, especially in their teenage years. Many parents and teens disagree about money, which pretty much runs our world. They can also disagree on a time of curfew, sexual relations, boy/girlfriends, and even the type of clothes they are allowed to wear. Disagreeing can be semi-healthy to an extant, but will ruin any relationship if it takes over.
The second we came to agree on was: How can we bridge the generation gap between parents and children? There are many ways for us to bring our parents and siblings closer to the current generation. Some many things change over the course of your parent's lives and while your growing up, and your parents don't always adapt to them. Cell-phones. For example, play a major part in today's society with the young and old alike. Many parents don't see any reason for their children to have a cell-phone, because in their youth, they didn't have cell-phones. There are many ways to help close the gap between parents and children, and the most important one would be talking. Talking will help you and your parents to understand where each other are coming from with their opinions. Talking, spending time together, teaching and learning are just some of the ways to do this. One member of our group said that he just spends less time at home, decreasing the amount of confrontation between him and his parents, but I think he misunderstood the question.
