Although you may believe that all the equipment you need to play tennis is a racquet and a ball, there is really a lot more to it. You also need tennis shoes and maybe a sweat band, and most important of all, you need a tennis court to play on. There are different types and options for these things. For example, different racquets will have different amounts of tension. The next few sections will do better to inform on these variations.
Tennis racquets come with string tensions ranging from 45 to 70 pounds. With a lower amount of tension, the player will have more power, but it will be harder to control the ball. Less tension also helps to prevent injuries in the arm. Most players start out using less tension, but add more as they get better. Another important part of the racquet is the grip. You don't want your grip to be lumpy or uneven, because this would hurt your hand during play.
Another very important thing is balls. All balls are alike and you really cannot go wrong with a ball you buy.
There are three different surfaces on tennis courts. There are grass, clay, and hard surfaces. The most commonly found court is the hard court, which is because it has a medium bounce, and medium speed. Clay courts have higher bounce, but the play is relatively slow. Grass courts are very fast compared to the other two courts, but have a fairly low bounce.
With these few pieces of equipment, you can play tennis. You would expect there to be more, but there is not.
