Team Dynamics

When you are faced with a problem that requires a team to be assembled you must set clear goals, so that everyone in the team knows what they are working towards. There are questions that you should be asking yourself even before you begin working on a solution. If you just ask yourself the following questions, and answer them you will have a start at setting clear goals.
What problem are we trying to solve?.
What do we need to get out of this? .
             Why are we doing this?.
If you answer these questions or ones like them then you will be on your way to setting clear goals. If a team is put together to accomplish something and they do not have clear goals then one or more of the members can cause the whole team to fail at what they are aiming for. You should always realize that there are trade offs when setting the goal and you can not always have everything which is why you my make sure that everything is clear to the team as a whole.
Creating clear goal can be a difficult task, and an ever changing one. While many people think that once a goal is set it's carved in stone when in fact goals can be very fluid and still clear as long as you do not have to start from scratch again. If while working on a project you decide that the goals you have set become more then what you really needed in the first place then you can focus on a narrower goal. This should only be done though if you can stay within in the bounds of the original goals that you set. For example your team goal is to set up a network for three hundred users but mid way into the design process you realize this goal was not vast enough. What you really want to do is set up the network for two hundred users, and plan for expansion without adding a lot of expense to the project. This shows that you had a clear goal to set up a network for a set amount of users, and then your goal changed by adding another goal to the list.
