Byron was born in London Jan 22 1788. He came from a family with a very wealthy background. However, despite his royalty he was still very unfortunate throughout his childhood. He was deserted by his father and raised by his mother, who was obviously in no fit state to raise him. She had a very short temper and often took her anger out on him. She soon lost control over him and he became very self willed. .
Byron's school life was not particularly great, but he studied at Trinity College for two years. He was very misbehaved, but kept his reputation up with his great knowledge of general information and English classics. .
He soon released a collection of poetry verses called "Hours of Idleness" which soon encouraged him to make literature a profession.

This poem tells us of a break-up between two lovers. The title for this poem does not give us much, but it basically gives us what we will expect the poem to read. .
"When we two parted In silence and tears, Half broken hearted, To server for thy years" - Obviously a long term relationship has just ended.
"Pale grew thy cheek and cold, Colder thy Kiss;" This gives the suggestion of love being an illness. .
"Truly that hour foretold Sorrow to this!" - The break up is one that has caused pain and sorrow, although the use of the word that shows us that its in the past tense, so the break up could have been anything from hours to years ago. .
"It felt like the warning, of what I feel now" - this shows us that it was not a spontaneous break up, that he could feel it coming on and knew what was going to happen sooner or later. .
"Thy vows are all broken" - This could be suggesting that it could be a break up of a marriage. .
"I hear thy name spoken And share in its shame" - Shows us that people are looking down on both of the ex lovers, saying that they are ashamed of them. The male lover claims he feels the shame in which they are expressing.
