Unprotected Sex

            College Students and Unprotected Sex.
We do not realize how uneducated today's college students really are. A person would automatically think that students attending college are smart enough to know the risks of having unprotected sex, and take caution in their sexual activities. Sadly enough this is not true. The number of college students having unprotected sex is off the charts. When surveyed, these students did not even realize the risk of contracting a disease. It makes you wonder, are these students isolated from the rest of the world? With all of the available information on the internet, news programs, and magazine articles, how can a person not know? There is too much ignorance in young people today. They think that this cannot touch them, like they are immune. I really feel sorry for these people. A survey was conducted on 516 students having unprotected sex, and 68 percent of those did not think that they were risking the possibility of contracting an STD. The sad part is that one in five of these students knew someone who had contracted an STD while in college. Some researchers feel that if parents stop trying to be friends with their children, and try instilling values and standards, and enforcing them, these numbers might change. .
They also believe if parents and educators were more open to talk about sex early on, students might be more hesitant about careless sex. Another important thing that students aren't educated very well on is hepatitis B. This can be spread through sex, tattooing, body piercing, contact sports, and even sharing a razor or toothbrush. More than half of college students have not received the hepatitis B vaccine. People need to become more educated on this matter, and realize that this is a serious epidemic that needs to be taken seriously. We need to take control of this and turn these numbers around before having an STD becomes "normal".
