For this particular research assignment, I have chosen to examine the following two topics from the selection Mr Edwards has offered.
The Treatment of Jews.
Jews were amongst the most persecuted races in history in the Middle Ages, most European countries stripped them of their rights, expelled and even executed them. For example the burning of Jews in medieval Germany.
During the Weimar Republic, German Jews were considered citizens in every respect. They were to be found in all walks of life, especially in professions such as law, medicine and civil services. Then came a terrible reverse.
Between 1933 and 1945 the Jews were once again persecuted. By the time the third Reich had ended, most of Germany's Jews had been deliberately wiped out, along with million of others through out Europe. This 12 year period represented horrifying changes.
During 1933, German Jews were deprived of their rights and protection of the law. Physical violence was not the main method used. In March 1933, Hitler ordered the S.A to stand outside Jewish shops, to turn away customers. In April, Jews were forced to give up their jobs in the civil service.
Although President Hindenburg made sure that expectations were made for those who had served in, or lost a family member of the family, on world war one. .
From September, Jews were not permitted to inherit land.1935 a particularly bad year; Jews were excluded from parks, swimming baths, restaurants and public buildings. Jews were also deprived of their citenzship rights and the right to vote.
The noremburg laws, band marriages between Jews and non Jews. Through out this period of time, Jews were subjected to constant insults in schools and in the crude of the newspapers of "Der Sturmer", which invented horrible stories and represented them as facts.
After 1938, the situation deteriorated rapidly. The main reason for this was the Nazi's leaders had gained much more confidence and had become less concerned about what the rest of the world thought of their anti-Jewish policies.
