In this essay I will inform you about the struggles and consequences Native Africans faced during the apartheid starting in 1948-1991. I will research the lives of the Africans, and how they differed from Afrikaners, also by giving examples on two different communists who fought for the rights of the Native Africans. Also I will include levels and stages of moral development on Kohlberg and Gilligan's views. .
Whenever we would have a discussion regarding Africa within school, I would imagine a country where there are South Africans, and who subsist in peace and harmony together. But, I was mistaken. I then heard that this was not factual for a long period in time. There was another race who shared, or shall I say took over Africa, the Afrikaners. Afrikaners were English, Dutch people who lived in South Africa, and basically ruled it. However the Native Africans would live as slaves in their own country. They were obligated to bear these passes, showing where they were from, and what boundaries they could cross every time they stepped out into the world. Strategists in the National party invented apartheid in the means to gain control over the economic and social system. Their aim was to maintain white domination while extending racial separation.
In order to maintain things in control race laws were made, and contacted every aspect of social life. This incorporated prohibition of racial marriages between Native Africans, and Afrikaners, they also would authorized "white only "jobs. The government would form acts such as the Population Registration Act which required everyone to be classified to one of the three categories; white, black (African), or colored (mixed race). The colored category included major races such as Indians and Asians. Penalties were given to protesters, even if they were non-violent. Thousands of people would die while being in the custody of the police, and those who were tried would be sentenced to either death, life imprisonment, or banished like the famous communist Nelson Mandela.
