My presentation is going to focus on the minor characters that make up the cast of 1984 written by George Orwell.
Each character has an important part to play as the story would not be whole or complete with out the minor characters. The role of these minor characters creates the surroundings or environment that makes for an interesting and complete story. .
The characters that I will be concentrating on are divided into 2 groups, some are members of only 1 while some are members of both. Each group by name describes the characters that make up that group.
Party members and non party members. .
Party members are those that support the ideals and believe in the state. Where as the non party members are those who live a life of their own, obviously to be a true party member by definition would mean that a person could not be both.
There are those who give the impression of being both but this is never the case. I will discuss these in a moment. First I am going to introduce some of the less prominent, yet still important characters.
To understand the importance of how each of the minor characters contribute to the plot I will use an analogy, this being that each person, no matter how small a role they may play is like a part in an engine.
If any one of these parts where not there the engine may operate yet not to the level should all the parts be in place.
The 2 main categories or groups that I spoke about earlier are just the same, each would not be without the other.
The characteristics of the non party members is more complicated in most cases than that of those of the party members in that to be classified as a non-party member would mean that you are not controlled by the system and have more freedom. This allows for more freedom of thought, different characteristics and basically a more complex personality.
