The American Revolution ended successfully in New Jersey for several reasons. Firstly, Washington's war tactics were successfully against the British. Secondly, the geography and the terrain in New Jersey were in their favor. Lastly, supplies and training from French helped General Washington win in New Jersey. After the war, New Jersey started to successfully modernize and industrialized to the mid 1800's. The areas of modernization were Industry, Transportation, and Slavery.
Washington's Continentals, their numbers dwindling, were temporarily safe in Pennsylvania, having brought all available boats over with them in order to prevent Howe's pursuit. Washington knew the Delaware River would freeze and make traveling easier for the British to cross. Washington made a crucial decision to risk virtually everything on a desperate counterattack. "The plan called for the three rebel columns to cross the Delaware on Christmas night and strike the British post at Trenton" (Lender, 29). Washington crossed the Delaware River when there was bad weather and the river was ice-choked. The only column that crossed in time was Washington's army. General Rall's had no security, so Washington marched twelve miles to Trenton being unopposed. The battle lasted about an hour and there were only five patriot causalities. In contrast, Washington killed some thirty of the enemy and took over nine hundred prisoners (Lender, 30). In addition, thousands of muskets, wagons, forty horses, handful of excellent field guns, and instruments were captured (Bill, 32). .
The following morning, Washington mauled several British regiments at Princeton, and only exhaustion stopped his men from going to New Brunswick and capturing British supplies. However, on January seventh, Washington led his troops to the safety of winter quarters at Morristown.
