Dolly the sheep, the first ever cloned animal died at the age of 3 suffering from a numerous amount of abnormalities. As the human race advances into the 21st century ask yourselves, do we really want scientists in labs creating embryos in test tubes using the same procedure?.
I am sure that the idea of scientific research producing cloned humans is something that probably disturbs most of you. Human lives are not research material, & scientists should not have control over a person's identity & unique characteristics.
Imagine going home today to be surprised to find documents stating that you are a clone. Imagine the questions that would be running through you head. What am I? Who am I? Who are my real parents? Imagine the emotional distress a person would have to live with assuming they do not commit suicide.
Now imagine the clone is your brother or sister or even your parents. Imagine the pain you would feel, knowing that the person you have lived with or loved for your entire life was created in a science lab by a man wearing a white overcoat and a pair of plastic goggles. Imagine knowing that the only reason that your bother or sister exists is because some sick man in a hospital needed a kidney to shortly lengthen his life and this came at the expense of greatly shortening your brother or sisters life. .
It would be more understandable if cloning was the only cure to diseases, however adult stem cells have already been successful in over 45 clinical trials and have treated cancer, to restore vision & treat M.S. & Parkinson disease. .
On top of all the emotional problems cloning could cause there will be an abundant number of practical obstacles before we can achieve clinical success to human cloning. It would require numerous eggs, it is inefficient and the slow development of cloned stem cells makes it unlikely to become a routine clinical procedure. Research on cloning is a poor allocation of funds.
