These are a few of the reactions that crossed my mind as I read this , "1984" written by Orwell. This novel raises a lot of issues everyone should have but how true is that in reality? Are we not .

Orwell drives us to reflect upon the world around us, as this brings up issues that are still evident in our today. In Winston's world, there is no privacy, no free will, no choices, everyone is monitored day and night by devices such as telescreens and hidden microphones. This society displays a threatening projection of the totalitarian system of the future. It is a society that is not unlike the tyrants of the 20th century. Today in our society, people take and freedom as a right, a privilege that being controlled in any way? The truth is, we may be controlled but all of us are influenced by advertisements, radio, television and forms of media that governments and advertisers throw at us each day. In our culture, people have to right to make their choices on what to purchase, watch or listen to, but is this choice made by our own accord or by the media that surrounds our world? At least we do have Newspeak, "It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words. haven't a real appreciation for Newspeak, Winston. Don't you see the whole aim is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally , because there will be no words in which to express it." The quotation depicts the concept that Newspeak is designed to control personal beliefs of the citizens by limiting their form of expression, that without words to describe feelings of rebellion, people will never question the party's intentions. Furthermore, when this system of communication is not followed, "Thought Police" were used to prevent thoughts that opposed the nation.
