Book Review of Control Theory

This kid continues to chow down because there is just not enough immediate payoff that can come from dieting.
The Stimulus-Response Theory is what our educational systems have been based on for many years. Dr. Glasser believes that that theory is sending our schools in the wrong direction. It is under the S-R Theory that if a failing or disruptive student is threatened enough by administrators that they can force the students to preform how ever the faculty directs them. Since suffering is not very satisfying, these punishments are only going to motivate these students for a very brief amount of time. This system does not make much sense since the administrators should be focusing on the long term motivation which is what is needed by each and every student. .
Glasser's novel closely relates to key terms in the Social Problem text book. For example, dropping out effects many young kids across America. Among the many high school drop outs, the specific reason for dropping out that associates with the novel is outright boredom. Numerous students can get bored with a subject or with school in general. The Control Theory reasoning for this boredom associates with a students satisfaction level. If a student does not take pleasing in performing school related tasks, then that student will create a picture in their head that relates school to a no desirable action. Therefore a student will begin to slack-off in the effort category. The next step after that, is the student will be so discouraged with their performance that they will drop out of school. .
Another key term that the novel relates to is the term tracking. Tracking in school represents students being placed in different levels of programs based on a proficiency exam that every student must take. Tracking is used all throughout the schools of America. Even though it is used in such widespread numbers, tracking is very controversial in its effects.
