Examine the technical changes that occurred in Italian Futurist painting from 1909-1915.
Futurism is placed in a turn-of-century, changing political, technological, economic and cultural current in Europe, the awarness that the fate of the future was in the hands of youth. The new advances and emphasis on speed, communication, mobility, time and science offered inspiration to artists in all fields. The Futurists aim was to communicate with a wide audience and two fuse art with the changing face and pace of life. Futurism was to coincide with the change of mentality of the public, what is now named today the desire for instant gratification, quick information mobility, travel, opportunities. Society was brought closer together, ideas were more readily communicated and welcome, futurism was presented in an areana and was meant to be speculated upon, contemplated and provactive. The themes in futurism include violence, war, anarchy, nationalism, the glorification of urban life, technology and speed, and was distingtly against past and academic values. .
It is essential to understand the link between the changes in society and futurism, futurism was not purely decorstive, or purely a social comment,was not voyaristic but was progressing with times interacting with life, in the core not on the peripheriary, it may ven be argued that futurism was setting the pace for society. Thus as Futurist painting was life, the presentaion of it to the public is of all importance. It was presented in much the same way as a political campaign, for example the use of manifestoes, for example "The praiseing of sounds, noises and smells", "The praise of prostitution". The futurists owned there own publishing house after all. The "Lacerba" a cultural newspaper was also a used in the futurist campaign. The advertising campaign used by the futurist was incrediable innovative, the furtist realised that scandel and controversy were a good and positive thing for launching futurism.
