Imagine making $200,000 dollars a year working 5-10 days every month traveling to foreign countries with all expenses paid, becoming a major airline pilot will allow you to have some of these life's luxuries.
Today I"m going to explain to you how to become a major airline pilot. With the time I have up here I will explain the steps on how to make it to the top, from getting your pilots license, making your ratings and in the end getting your airline pilots license.
Everybody's got to start somewhere, and in this business it's getting your pilots license. Now before you rush off to the airport and start flying you"ll need to get a medical, proving to the government you"re physically capable of flying. This can be achieved by going to a certified aviation doctor; luckily, there are a couple of doctors locally based. After your visit he will reward you with a third class medical, good for three years. After you have obtained your medical you may then find an airport that provides flight training. We are fortunate enough to have the Iowa City Municipal Airport as the closest airport with training.
You and your instructor will go over maneuvers, flying techniques and regulations, but it is your responsibility to study the text books and keep up in the ground school aspect. It is required by the FAA or Federal Aviation Administration to have at least 40 hours of flight time to get your license, 20 of it with your instructor and 20 hours solo, which can be done after taking the pre-solo test. Once you have accomplished your 40 hours you"ll need to take a written exam, which will be given to you by your instructor. Hopefully you"ll have done your reading and will be able to pass the test with a 70% or better. The next step is to take the oral exam, which is done with an FAA examiner; he will go through basic points on the ground then take you up flying and make you fly basic flight maneuvers, ensuring you know how to handle the aircraft.
