In what ways do emotions affect our acquisition of knowledge?.
Emotion is a moving of feelings or agitation of the mind. The term "working memory" is used by neuroscientists for the capacity of attention that holds in mind the facts essential for completing a given task or problem according to the extract. In another way u can say that if the "emotions part" of the brain is affected in anyway then it could affect the decision making of the individual. For example anxiety or anger in a learning situation could affect the "working memory" and the student could forget very quickly everything he has learnt on that particular day, another example would be when a student goes to an exam and is really stressed and even if he had revised and prepared himself well for the exam but is still not confident about it, when he goes into the exam room and when he sees the supervisors and the exam paper in front of him, he can have a sudden "block" in the memory and looks at the questions and cannot afford to do them then this could show that stress or anxiety affects the memory. .
Dr Antonio Damasio a neurologist at the university of Lowa college of medicine, made studies on patients that had their "emotional" brain damaged, according to the extract he found out that these patients decisions were terribly affected, and when he practiced IQ tests on those patients he found that there was no deterioration in their IQ or any other ability that acquires logical thinking. So from this example of the extract with the studies of Dr Damasio it confirms my argument that the "emotion" part of the brain affects people in their everyday lives, specially if they have to make important decisions concerning their future lives (for example where in what bank they should place their money so that it is safe and they get a good interest rate).Emotions affect the mood as well in the everyday life for example if someone wakes up with the "left foot" as we say, maybe because he got some bad news the day before and he is sad or angry.
