Tale of two cities


This shows the severity of the Marquis inability to show kindness to others. He knows his power and the influence he possesses and uses it to his advantage by repressing of those below him. He believed the world should be centered around nobility and that nothing else should exist. All of these character traits show the many reasons someone who have to hate the Marquis and even to kill him, which eventually happened. Therefore his ignorance and uncharitable manners show how he made himself vulnerable enough to be killed. The peasantry aided beyond the Marquis control and was the cause of his fate. .
             Another character who brought on her own destiny was Mme. Defarge. Mme. Defarge is a determined woman who is actively involved in the revolution. She spends her time knitting away in the wine shop which her and M. Defarge own. She is knitting the names of those who will die as a result of her and the other revolutionaries actions. As she knits she also visually records the faces of those who must be executed as they visit the wine shop. She is also intensely set the revolution that she turns into a merciless woman who disregards anyone connected to an aristocratic family. It is understandable that her family was hurt by the Evrémondes but it is hypocritical of her to hurt Charles Darnay, his wife or his daughter. He was no part of his father's or uncle's actions, in fact he pulled away from his inheritance and was against the Marquis' views. By intending to murder them, Mme. Defarge is only asking for trouble because she is attempting to hurt innocent people the way she was hurt. She was a fierce woman who believed she could fix all wrong doing by executing the source; the aristocrats destined to die. Mme. Defarge was actually knitting her own fate because her actions made her oblivious to the fact that someone could counteract her, which indeed happened. When she wanted to find Lucie mourning the loss of Charles, a crime which could face a death punishment, she was surprised to find Miss Pross alone.
