Drugs

Bolivia is the second largest producer of cocaine in the world and along with Peru sends most of their cocaine and heroin to Colombia. Colombia's 80 metric tons of cocaine and 6.5 tons of heroin is then shipped to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Mexican drug trafficking organizations are responsible for the transportation of cocaine from the Southwest border to the New York market. Traffickers operating from Mexico now control wholesale cocaine distribution throughout the western and midwestern United States. The reason why South American countries produce so many drugs are because of the variety of space they have. Most drugs are produced in Colombia and Peru because they use the Amazon rainforest to grow the drugs. There are also135, 000 acres of coca farms in Colombia and 35, 000 farmers are involved in growing coca and poppies. The reason why these farmers participate in the growing of these plants even when they know they can be imprisoned if they are caught is because of the money they receive in return from the drug lords for using their land. A farmer can easily make thousands of dollars just growing coca plants on their farms for drug lords. In order to stop the producing of these drugs in South America, the government of these countries has to enforce stricter laws concerning the growing and trafficking of drugs. By setting examples of what happens to drug lords when they are caught they can diminish the exporting of these drugs to the U.S and other countries. Also by monitoring the activity that occurs in the Amazon rainforest they can catch more drug producers and eliminate them from trafficking them.

The reason why Americans are getting a hold of all these drugs are because of the many drug dealers that are distributing them on the streets. Under the law, anyone who has ever passed a joint to the next person at a concert or anywhere else is a drug dealer.
